Deer for Lupine Valley

Haven't posted anything for a good long while. I've been working on my final assessment piece: a full game entitled Lupine Valley. Unfortunately the game is super disappointing so I'm only going to post the art pieces that I did on it.

I modelled a male and a female deer using Zbrush, retopologized, rigged and animated them in Maya, and textured them using Photoshop. Here are some posed renders from Maya:

And here are some walk and run cycles that I did for them (ignore the weird stone look, I was playing with materials before I textured them):

Environment Assignment (Progress)

So I haven't posted anything in a while, and I probably should have as I've gone along, but I've been busy working on my environment assignment for school. Just gonna post some progress shots and not talk too much about it because I still have a lot to do. Got some little animations in there with the flags flapping and the bird flying around and the windmill turning, I'll post a video/flythrough when it's done. Also gonna try and get some grass swaying in the wind if I can.

Hand

Made a hand for one of the programmers in the other class, for his assignment. Did retopo, baked normals and AO for the hand, and also rigged and animated two animations for it, a relaxed idle animation and a cupped idle animation. Didn't bother texturing it or even adding specularity because the guy I'm giving it to will do all that in engine himself, so for now I just gave the material a rough skin colour.

Game Prototype Rig

The Catman animation was just me testing this rig that I made for our prototype game: Balls To The Wall. Basically the concept is to get the character to make shapes to get through a hole in a wall as it comes towards you. If you miss and hit the wall, you go ragdoll and die. It is literally a game version of the game show Hole In The Wall. Here's the rig, with and without the skeleton. Next step will be to texture the character.

Catman Animation

Just a dumb little animation I did for no particular reason. I modelled and rigged this model for a game project we're doing at school, but I did the animation just because I had some free time. Didn't really put much effort into the animation, really. The texture isn't final either, there's no way we're gonna use this in game.

Horse Thing

Finally finished rigging my horse creature and now I've done a little idle animation for him. Gonna do a derpy run cycle next. Super keen to animate this thing!

Horse Thing

Started working on a weird little horse creature which is basically just a horse head with tiny little legs and a fat body. I've baked normals, still have to give it a proper texture and some hair for a mane, and I'm currently working on an idle animation for him. I'll do a run and walk cycle next and then see where things go from there. Here are some old renders: since then I've given him a placeholder eye texture.

Camera Turntable

Finally rendered out a turntable for my Canon 600D model I did a while ago. Took way too long. Rendered with Arnold

Character Animation Assignment - Finished

A frustrated Koh finally finished his animation assignment this morning. Took forever because the Render farm didn't work properly. In all honesty, it could have been better. Only like 12 seconds long, but boy was it a lot of work.

Lip Sync

So after a long complicated series of events which resulted in my work being lost and me having to move to another computer, I finished the Lip Sync animation exercise. Audio is the famous 'I Am The Danger' quote from Breaking Bad.

Walk Cycle (Adjusted)

Added a bit of a bob to the hips for my MooM walk cycle. Now it looks better.

Run Cycle

A lazy run cycle I did. Could be smoother, but it was just an exercise. Done with the Norman rig.

Walk Cycle

A goofy little walk cycle I did with the MooM rig. Didn't take long at all, and just playblasted it out. Looks way better on repeat in Maya though. Did it game style (walking on the spot) because film style is hard.

Animation Assignment - Finished

After like 4 days of rendering, and a couple of hours of putting it together with sound effects and everything, my animation is done. It's only like 30 seconds long too, which is depressing considering how long it took to complete.

Animation Assignment

So I skipped the Very Emotional Juice Box exercise completely, and went straight to doing my assignment. Even though this isn't our character animation assignment, we still got a little character to animate. I've been working hard on it because I want it to look really good. I'm going to render it out using the Arnold Renderer, to make it look really pretty. Here's what the final product should look like.

Ball and Tail Exercise

Another animation exercise: animating a ball with a tail, jumping on stuff. Just working up to the actual assignment, where we have to make a shortfilm with a Rayman type character, before we go on to actual character animation.

Seesaw Exercise

Just a short animation of a ball launching a cube off a see saw.

Cannon Exercise Finished

Finished off the cannon exercise. Animating the cannonball destroying the wall was time consuming because I didn't use dynamics at all, I just animated all the bricks.

Cannon Exercise

We had to do an exercise in preparation for our animation assignment, where a cannon was to shoot 5 things; a balloon, a plank of wood, some jelly, a piece of paper and just a regular old cannonball. This is my attempt; I haven't finished doing the paper or cannonball shoot yet though, this is what I have so far.

Character Assignment - Turntable

Rendered turntable of my Viking on his little platform. The shadows are a little strong but I can adjust that before I put it in my portfolio.
